M’illumino di meno is an initiative proposed by Rai 2, whose goal is to raise awareness about the climate change and all the little things that all of us can do to reduce our environmental impact like:
- turning-off the unnecessary light;
- choosing sustainable mobility;
- promoting virtuous behaviors at home and in school;
On the website of the initiative there are ten main points to reflect about.
This year the motto is “M’illumino di meno is trending and it goes fast”, fast as our intervention must be. It uses Emilia-Romagna in Italy and Valencia, two different territories struck by floods, as examples for how bad the consequences of climate change may be. So to stop these extreme events, the change of mentality and behaviour must be strong and fast.
Dennis found out about the activity and proposed the project to 4 DEN, who said it was really cool and interesting, also very helpful for raising awareness among the young population.
The challenge is to ride a stationary bike and generate as much power as possible through a dynamo that will measure by a computer connected with the set of bikes how much energy was generated in ten minutes of intense pedalling. In fact, it is also an excuse to do some exercise and to keep in shape together with our classmates.
At the end of the day the class that will have generated more power, will win an honourable mention in the school online magazine.
We are so excited for this afternoon, when I’ll be the judges for the competition!
